Whether it is home automation or robotics, the using of electro mechanical devices to perform mundane tasks is not a new concept. The concept of automation is really quite simple. A series or inputs and outputs linked by way of a logic processor which takes input occurrences and commands runs them through a logic processor which sends the appropriate activation commands to the outputs or another logic processor. To some this may seem complicated, but with the proper equipment and software, home brew automation is within the reach of anyone with even website programming knowledge. Click on a button and commands are sent. Voila, automation.

Raspberry pi was recently introduced to me by way of a friend in Seattle. After the fall apart with a certain Austrian company who appeared to want to steal the Canadian Specific domain of a Canadian individual (me) I decided to find alternative solutions the my home automation needs. First step, a mini server or mini PC, preferably running on some sort of Linux Kernel. Enter Raspberry pi, a credit card sized PC or server with USB, Ethernet and video support. Hot damn, here she comes. This forum topic is for Raspberrians, Linux guru's and Home Automation / system integration aficionados to discuss utilysing Raspberry pi as an automation logic controller.
